Special Education Plans

Special Education Overview

Special education programs and services primarily consist of instruction and assessments that are different from those provided to the general student population. These may take the form of accommodations (such as specific teaching strategies, preferential seating, and assistive technology) and/or an educational program that is modified from the age-appropriate grade level expectations in a particular course or subject, as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s curriculum policy documents.

CURRENT Special Education Plan

The Protestant Separate School Board of the Town of Penetanguishene’s (PSSBP’s) Special Education Plan outlines the Board’s philosophy of special education and describes the special education programs and services available. It has been designed in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Education Act and regulations made under the Act, and applicable Policy and Program Memoranda.

Ontario's Equity & Inclusive Education Policy

The Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy is designed to support a publicly funded education system that gives all students the opportunity to reach their highest potential. There are five categories of exceptionality recognized by the province of Ontario and used in Identification Placement and Review Committees.
